Hand Lettered Truth started out simply is a ministry that mixed hand lettering with writing the most important words that matter: the God-breathed words of the Bible. God says His word will not return void; it will accomplish all that He wills. It is because of this that I am passionate about sharing God’s word through handwriting. The ministry continues, even as Hand Lettered Truth has grown into a small lettering business.

The heart of this ministry is to share the gospel with an unbelieving world, calling them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Our ministry is also aimed at fellow believers, encouraging them to strive to know more about our God. Our family is passionate about helping people know the true and living God for who He tells us He is in His word and not for who we would like Him to be or who the unbelieving world tells us He is. Our God is a good God, a loving God, and a just God. We can never study the attributes of God enough. The more we know Him, the more we will worship Him out of a heart of love for who He is.

We are very thankful that Hand Lettered Truth has grown into a small family business. The business is run by myself (Debbie Bratton) and my husband Daniel Bratton. We have four children, ages 1 through 11. We are so thankful that the Lord has given us talents to use for His glory and hope it is a blessing to all of you.

I (Debbie) have always had a love of hand lettering and calligraphy and in 2014 I began to use it as a means of meditating on the word of God. I started to doodle, write, and design bible verses and kept them in a journal that I later gave to my oldest daughter. As I began to share some of my creations on social media, I had many friends who encouraged me to make something of my designs.

Lettering and crafting was the perfect combination, as I have always been a lover of both. I began offering hand lettered scripture on canvases and prints just for family and friends. After a while, I wanted to venture into making wood signs, and that’s when my husband Daniel stepped in to take over the wood cutting, sanding, and building our wooden signs.

At the end of 2015, I decided to create an Instagram page strictly for my lettering. It has been so neat to watch it grow so much in just over a year, and one thing I’ve realized is that there are a lot of people out there who are interested in lettering and need a little help and advice getting started. I love being able to offer tips, tutorials, and advice for those who are interested in starting out on their own hand lettering journey. With the help of my husband, we put together a beginner’s kit that comes with some of my top recommended writing utensils for beginners, as well as a notebook and worksheets intended to teach you some of my signature lettering fonts.
